“MUBB Dominates Providence with Commanding 78-50 Victory”

The No. 8/8 Marquette University men’s basketball squad (12-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) continued their BIG EAST Conference action with a resounding 78-50 victory against Providence (7-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) on New Year’s Eve at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.

Guard Kam Jones spearheaded the offense with 18 points and 10 assists, while guard Stevie Mitchell contributed 14 points, five steals, and five rebounds. This marked Jones’s third double-double of the season.

The 28-point final difference ties for the fourth-largest margin in BIG EAST competition for Marquette.



Marquette led by as much as 32 in the second half, restricting PC to a shooting percentage of 34.0 from the floor and inducing 22 turnovers (which translated into 27 points).



The Golden Eagles utilized an outstanding first half on both ends of the court to gain a 47-20 lead by halftime. MU shot 52.9 percent from the field while limiting the Friars to a mere 27.3 percent, forcing 14 turnovers.



Highlights:

• Marquette now leads the all-time series 25-15 and ended a five-game losing streak against Providence (they hadn’t won at PC since 2018-19)
• The Golden Eagles are 3-0 in conference play for the third instance since joining the BIG EAST in 2005-06 and for the first time since 2012-13
• Marquette permitted only 20 points in the first half, its lowest since Butler scored 20 on February 4, 2024
• Guard Zaide Lowery registered a personal-best three 3-pointers and achieved a career-high of 11 points
• As of Tuesday, Marquette was among only 23 teams nationwide that had the same starting lineup for every game
