Mustangs Take the Plunge: A Thrilling Showdown Against Cal State Bakersfield!

In their last competition, back in 2024, Evan Yoo and Drew Huston maintained remarkable times, helping the men’s team secure a third-place position at the UNLV Finis Invitational. Amalie Claus-Udarbe also had a thriving week, achieving new personal records in both the 100 and 200 Breast, which were sufficient for #5 on each of those program rankings.

Although Cal Poly and Cal State Bakersfield competed against each other a few months ago at the CSUB Sprint Classic and Roadrunner Invite, the Mustangs only sent their divers to that event.

Justin Dolezal delivered a performance of 293.00 points in the 1-meter dive and 292.05 in the 3-meter. This achievement not only secured him a second-place finish in both events but also saw him surpass Cal State Bakersfield’s Dyson Modica and Anderson Laing, who had previously outperformed him in last season’s invitations. In the 1-meter, Dolezal finished just 7 points shy of two-time Summit League Men’s Diver of the Year Zyad Morsy (Denver), giving Morsy quite the competition. Freshman Lucas Lehrer placed seventh of nine divers (210.60) and garnered 246.25 points in the 3-meter event.

On the women’s front, Ava Lazovsky (220.65) finished 7th among 21 divers, while Ava Geronimo closely trailed her, achieving 218.30 points in 9th place. In the 3-meter event, KellyAnn Lim (181.95) and Myl Lauc (168.20) rounded out the middle of the group, finishing ahead of the two lowest divers. Lazovsky concluded the tournament with an 11th place result in the 1-meter with 204.20 points.
