IRVING, Texas – The swimming and diving team from the University of Utah has received its fourth Big 12 Weekly Award following Holly Waxman’s outstanding performance at the Auburn Diving Invitational, where she was honored with the women’s Diver of the Week title, as announced by the conference on Friday.

From December 18-21, the Utah divers participated in the Auburn Diving Invitational in Auburn, Alabama. Throughout the four-day event, Waxman secured two silver medals and reached the top-12 finals in every event.

The native of Leeds, England commenced her competition on the one-meter springboard, achieving a score of 300.15 and securing the top position entering the finals. In the finals, she narrowly missed first place, earning a silver medal just three points short, bringing her total score to 292.15. On the third day, Waxman competed on the three-meter springboard and once more, was the top seed going into finals. In finals, she scored a total of 314.65, finishing second to a student-athlete from Florida State. On the final day of competition, Waxman took part in the tower event. Although her five-dive list scored 220.35, placing her in ninth place heading into finals, she ultimately withdrew due to some pre-existing injuries.

Waxman ranked as the second-highest scoring diver of the meet, netting 38 points for the overall score of the Utah women’s team. Her twelve-dive list, consisting of the combined scores of the six dives in prelims along with the six dives in finals, was the highest among all competing female student-athletes on both the 1m and 3m.

This marks the fourth Big 12 weekly accolade awarded to the Utah swim and dive program this season and the third to be given to a diver from Utah.

Waxman and her teammates will compete against Colorado Mesa, Wisconsin, BYU, and UCSB on January 10-11 at the Ute Natatorium.
