Danville’s Fiery and Icy First Fridays: A Spectacular Post-Holiday Bash at Palmer Arena!

For the third straight January, the City of Danville inaugurated the year’s First Fridays events by hosting FIRE AND ICE at the David S. Palmer Arena. The Danville Fire Brigade was present, in addition to the typical array of enjoyment and goodies. Assisting with the ice skating and saucer sledding for younger children was Danville’s Mayor, Rickey Williams, Jr.

AUDIO: Witnessing the delight on the parents’, aunts’, and uncles’ faces; and the excitement they share with their children while gliding around the corners on the ice is truly rewarding. They cherish it. It transports you back to your youth, just to observe the joy in both the parents’ and children’s expressions. The paramount aspect is that they are creating cherished memories.

Regarding the younger children aged seven and below being towed across the ice in saucers, Danville Community Relations Administrator Rheanna Ollis mentions that she receives particular requests for this service.

AUDIO: Numerous parents have contacted me, expressing that “our kids adore this. They would dislike skating as it can be too rough for them.” Therefore, we are thrilled to provide this opportunity to come out, skate, and sled.

Similar to the Downtown First Fridays events, a significant number of attendees travel to Danville for the enjoyment.

AUDIO: We are attracting individuals not just from nearby counties in Illinois, but also Indiana; it’s truly remarkable.

Among those visitors from Indiana was Natalie, hailing from Perrysville.

AUDIO: This is the second consecutive year we have attended. We have thoroughly enjoyed both occasions, especially for families with younger children. It’s absolutely wonderful.
