Frustration Strikes: Google Gadgets Grounded as Users Declare “No More Purchases!”

CHERISHED Google gadgets have become “ineffective” for several days, prompting irate users to declare “I will not be purchasing any more”.

Devices like Google Nest and Google Home speakers and displays are not responding to simple inquiries such as “what time is it?”.

The problem is reported to have begun on December 30, 2024, according to online discussions.

The gadgets, traditionally responsive to verbal commands, have left their owners frustrated due to their silence.

One individual expressed their discontent on X, previously known as Twitter.

They stated: “Came home to my Google Nest audio not responding.

“I searched online for troubleshooting solutions as it wouldn’t respond to a factory reset and spent 20 minutes on the phone with Support only to be informed that it’s out of warranty and they cannot assist.

“This is the second instance of trouble I’ve encountered..”

They also mentioned: “Needless to say, Google, I will not be purchasing any further devices for my household since two of my gadgets haven’t lasted beyond 32 days – 3 years.

“I haven’t heard of similar problems with my friends who have Amazon and Alexa in their homes.”

The individual added that they faced the same issue with their Google Mini that inexplicably stopped functioning after 32 days.

On the following day, another Nest user sought clarification from Google Assistant on January 1, 2025.

They reported: “All of my Nest speakers have stopped answering basic questions like ‘What time is it’.”

The individual claimed their Nest responds to “Hey Google, are you there?” but then ignores them when they inquire about the weather.

According to this person, all their speakers behaved this way simultaneously.

Within just three days, 24 individuals have indicated experiencing the same issue.

A label on the post indicates “this is a trending problem.”

However, Google has since addressed the concern leading to some Home and Nest devices muting themselves.

The glitch seemed to exclusively impact voice commands, causing the voice assistant to disconnect when providing information about the weather or time, which it can already display.

Yet, the primary cause has yet to be discovered.

A representative remarked: “The team is still probing the primary cause but have rectified the issue, so all users should now be operational.”

Google has been contacted for comments.
