Kevin Love Channels Boyz II Men Amid Buzz Around Jimmy Butler’s Trade Speculations

Jimmy Butler’s desire to be traded from the Miami Heat appears to be affecting the emotions of his six-time All-Star teammates — reminiscent of a ’90s R&B music ensemble.

Following Miami’s 128-115 defeat to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday evening — where the forward achieved his second consecutive nine-point performance — Butler articulated that he has lost his enthusiasm for playing basketball in Miami.

“I want to see myself regain my joy in playing basketball. Wherever that may be, we will discover soon enough,” Butler stated. “I am satisfied here off the court, but I want to return to being somewhat dominant, I want to play and I want to assist this team in winning, and at this moment I am not accomplishing that.”

In reaction to Butler’s remarks regarding his diminished joy in a Heat uniform, power forward Kevin Love shared his sentiments on social media Friday, seemingly hinting at Butler’s possible exit by recreating the R&B group Boyz II Men’s 1997 album “Evolution.”

The artwork included Heat guard Tyler Herro, Love, Butler, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Kyle Lowry, who was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier and a protected 2027 first-round selection in January 2024.

Earlier in the day, Love shared a clip of the iconic Boyz II Men track “End of the Road,” but the post was taken down due to copyright complications. Love shared on his Instagram story.

Butler has suggested his departure from Miami. On Christmas Day, reports indicated that Butler favored a trade, with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors being among his preferred teams. Heat president Pat Riley subsequently issued a statement affirming: “We will make it unequivocal — we are not trading Jimmy Butler.”

Team officials have also speculated that Butler did not exert his full effort in Miami’s 119-108 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, where he concluded with nine points.

The All-Star guard also received a seven-game suspension due to several instances of conduct detrimental to the team.

Butler is in the concluding year of his contract with a player option for $52 million for the next season. Sources informed ESPN’s Shams Charania and Brian Windhorst that teams have been alerted to Butler’s intention to decline his player option for the 2025-26 season and become a free agent in July.
