Nikki Glaser Reveals the Pain Behind Pete Davidson’s Roast Joke About Her Body

Nikki Glaser is recognized for her sharp critiques on Comedy Central’s roasts — yet the comedian reveals that a quip aimed at her — delivered by Pete Davidson — still resonates painfully.

“I frequently reflect on certain jokes made about me during roasts from six years prior; they continue to linger,” Glaser, who is set to host the upcoming Golden Globes, stated during the Jan. 3 broadcast of The Run-Through with Vogue. “They emerge when I gaze into the mirror. They reveal aspects of yourself that you may be unaware of, or perhaps affirm in a harsh light what you already think— like, ‘This is what I think of myself, but I’m incredibly harsh on myself. No one else has picked up on that.’ ”

She mentioned one particular jest where Pete Davidson remarked that “I don’t have an ass.”

“I was aware of it, and I understand it,” Glaser, 40, expressed, “but the notion that Pete Davidson had absorbed that detail and reflected on it — I contemplated it too, and it stings since I indeed don’t have an ass— yet the fact that he genuinely considered, or maybe someone scripted the quip for him … but he had to at least think, ‘That will resonate with her.’ “

“It affected me,” she stated.

“It’s my most disliked moment during a roast when I see my name appear on the teleprompter. I think, ‘Oh, here it comes,’ ” Glaser recounted. “ ‘How harsh is this going to be?’ And then, you laugh politely, and do your best to disregard it. I think I even shed tears at one of the after-parties due to feeling despondent about something.”

She noted that her willingness to expose herself to criticism is what makes her a proficient roaster.

“I believe one of the reasons I’ve been able to navigate it is due to my openness to such comments, so I should feel entitled to express what I desire. Still, it truly is a challenging aspect that can be incredibly painful. “

“I wish I could declare, ‘Oh, it’s just humor. Nothing genuinely affects us, and we don’t take things personally,’ “ she admitted. “Yet we absolutely do.”

She recounted one quip during theComedy Central Roast featuring Alec Baldwin in 2019 prompted her to seek cosmetic enhancements.

“Blake Griffin remarked that I resembled Larry Bird, and the audience’s reaction was immensely positive — it landed so well that I was like, I can’t dismiss that,” she shared. “That marked the first occasion I ever opted for injections in my face to the extent that I aimed to reshape things. So, indeed, there are repercussions for certain.”
