Notch Hints at the Exciting Arrival of Minecraft 2 on Social Media!

Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, widely recognized for developing Minecraft, has shared an extensive message on social media detailing how he has ‘essentially declared Minecraft 2’.

This statement arrives nearly fifteen years after he crafted the initial functional version of Minecraft, a process that took just over a week in 2009. On Twitter, Notch indicated that the game might never actually come to fruition and that he doesn’t ‘overly care’ about which game he creates, but he ‘(does) know (he’s) making one’.

In his view, it could serve as a spiritual successor to Minecraft.

Minecraft 2, Two Decades Later

The inaugural version of Minecraft, launched in 2009, is now referred to as the Java Edition – Notch assembled it in a mere few days, and it ultimately became a titan of the gaming industry valued at billions of dollars. For an extended period, enthusiasts have been curious about what lies ahead, but since Microsoft obtained the brand, there have been no more than a handful of spin-off games released.

Minecraft 2? Perhaps Notch desires to take charge of that one.

On social media, Notch stated:

I essentially declared Minecraft 2.

I considered that maybe people really DO want me to create another game that’s quite similar to the original, and I’m genuinely enjoying developing games again.

I don’t really overly care precisely which game I make first (or even if I create more), but I do know I’m making one, so I thought I’d willingly give it a genuine attempt in the format of a spiritual successor to Minecraft and propose a poll about it.

He elaborated that spiritual successors can be ‘sad’ and ‘overdone’ but he’s ready to meet what people are looking for if they are willing to invest money for a new offering.

Notch also reassured his fans that his game would not infringe on ‘the fantastic work the Mojang team is accomplishing and that Microsoft is effectively executing’.

However, further down in the comments beneath his post, Notch was candid:

Honestly, I’m not even certain I’ll make it to launch, considering how I have been throughout my life.

But I can confirm that I am truly enjoying having fun developing a game in an office and would love to take a swing at it.
