Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gagan Ajit Singh, has called upon local inhabitants to promptly report any theft or snatching of mobile phones and electronic devices. While addressing journalists, the SSP emphasized that timely reporting is crucial for assisting police in identifying perpetrators and retrieving stolen possessions.

“We request those who have misplaced mobile phones or devices to notify the nearest police station or the cybercrime unit without delay. The inquiry of apprehended suspects frequently leads to the resolution of other related incidents,” Singh stated.

To showcase the ongoing initiatives, the police recently held an event during which 31 stolen mobile phones, valued at Rs 4.65 lakh, were restored to their legitimate owners. These phones had been confiscated by a team led by Manpreet Singh, the head of the cyber unit, by utilizing the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). Up to now, the police have identified a total of 106 stolen mobiles worth Rs 16 lakh.

The SSP commended the cybercrime team for their commitment to retrieving the stolen gadgets, which included reviewing CCTV footage from various areas and collecting information from complainants.

During the event, the SSP urged the public to exercise caution when handling valuable devices and to promptly report any theft or snatching occurrences to the authorities. “Any delay in reporting a theft complicates the police’s ability to respond, allowing the offenders to escape,” he remarked.

The police have been utilizing digital resources available through the cybercrime unit to identify and apprehend criminals, ensuring every incident is thoroughly scrutinized. The SSP’s message was unmistakable: swift action can greatly enhance the likelihood of recovery and successful legal prosecution.
