Raveena Tandon’s enthusiasm for photography originates from a profound bond with nature. Reflecting on her initial fascination with photography, Tandon shares, “My passion for photography is derived from my affection for wildlife. My adventure commenced with childhood excursions to the forest, but it was my first safari in Africa as an adult in 2002 that genuinely ignited my enthusiasm. At that time, I lacked confidence in handling a camera, although I was already engaged (in learning). Upon returning, I vividly relived the moments while recounting them to my children, Pooja and Chhaya. At that instance, I thought, ‘I wish I had taken a camera with me. Why didn’t I prepare to seize these moments?’”

The 52-year-old elaborates, “It’s about seizing those invaluable moments because, in wildlife, there are no second chances. We can’t recreate a photograph. It’s that fleeting moment when you capture something genuinely extraordinary. To me, nature and wildlife embody pure magic — divine creations — and they are something we ought to cherish. The moment I’m in the jungle or anywhere in nature, I must have my camera in hand; otherwise, I feel incomplete.”
Recollecting one of her most treasured experiences, Tandon reveals that she has not only documented wildlife but also photographed individuals. “I adore capturing the expressions of people, and one image that remains vivid in my memory is of an elderly shepherd I once met. He was remarkably nimble for his years, and his visage exuded serene tranquility. I was so moved that I halted in the middle of the road to take a photograph. I believe that moment was in Manali, and it stands as one of my favorite snapshots,” she shares.
From that point onward, Tandon never looked back. She equipped herself with high-end camera equipment, and interestingly, her daughter, Rasha Thadani, has also embraced her enthusiasm for photography.
“Rasha is a nature lover. In fact, merely 3-4 years ago, at the age of 17, she achieved 4th place, becoming one of the youngest wildlife photographers to earn a certificate at the Tiger Photography Festival in Jaipur,” Tandon states, radiating pride.
Motivating others to pursue their passion for photography, Tandon shares her views on the HT100 Photography contest: “Photography is a wonderful passion to possess, and it’s something I adopted when I realized how essential it is for self-expression. Additionally, photography contests not only serve as a means of self-assessment but also provide an opportunity to view the works of others. I urge everyone to participate and revel in their love for photography.”
