AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Over 40% of adults in the United States struggle with obesity, which can lead to chronic health issues.

An Amarillo physician states that although lifestyle modifications are essential for weight loss, many individuals find it challenging.

Weight reduction medications such as Ozempic and Semaglutide have become favored among those aiming to decrease weight.

Some argue that addressing obesity in the United States requires lifestyle modifications, including diet, exercise, and proper nutrition.

“Making lifestyle changes is always essential to begin with. What we consume has such a significant impact, so diet and physical activity are critical. The primary factor is avoiding excessive consumption of fried and high-fat foods, fast food, and all the things that are delicious but convenient and inexpensive. They are detrimental to our health,” remarked Dr. Jeff Josma, medical director at Acute & Chronic Pain and Spine Center and Texas Pain & Spine Institute.

On the other hand, some individuals believe these medications enhance the health, longevity, and overall quality of life for Americans.

“For individuals who have exhausted every option and still face challenges in achieving their target weight or in losing weight, these peptides can be, I don’t want to label them a miracle, but they are beneficial in assisting with weight loss,” stated Dr. Josma.

Factors such as body composition, genetics, and availability of nutritious foods play a significant role in achieving health and weight loss.

“No quantity of medication can compensate for a poor diet and insufficient exercise, so I advise those who utilize these peptides to continue exercising and maintaining a healthy diet too,” Dr. Josma added.

Walking, physical activity, and a balanced diet should be the initial steps prior to consulting with your physician about these medications.

“All of these elements combined will work synergistically. Therefore, relying solely on one aspect, such as just taking a pill or merely exercising without altering your diet, will not yield optimal results. However, by implementing a comprehensive approach, you’ll find yourself in your best condition,” Dr. Josma concluded.
