WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – On Saturday morning, freezing drizzle affects travel in Wichita and various parts of the state, as slippery roads lead to collisions and slide-offs.

The Wichita Police Department announced that Emergency Accident Reporting Plan (EARP) has been activated for the City of Wichita. Therefore, if individuals are involved in a non-injury incident and their vehicle is operational, they are required to exchange details and report the matter to a substation at a later time.

In cases of injuries, if any vehicle is not operational, or if a crime is suspected to have taken place, please dial 911 for an officer’s response.

According to dispatch, Sedgwick County, Derby, and Bel Aire are also under EARP.

On Saturday morning, KDOT, sheriff’s offices, and police departments reported ice-covered roads throughout western Kansas and subsequently in Wichita.

The Garden City Police Department advised residents to remain at home as crews in Finney County grappled with several accidents and slide-offs. For those involved in a non-injury incident, they request individuals to simply exchange information.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement after a semi obstructed all lanes on K-27.

Around 9 a.m. in Wichita, numerous incidents were reported, affecting travel on major highways and interstates throughout the area. Bridges and overpasses have been highlighted as particularly ice-laden. The NWS Wichita posted a video showing a semi-truck sliding on icy roads. Wichita Fire has also urged the public to exercise extreme caution.

You can monitor road conditions across the state using the KanDrive map and its cameras.
