SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The gymnastics team of Utah State kicked off its 2025 season by achieving a score of 194.450 against the No. 5 ranked Utah on Friday evening at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah, which holds the fifth position nationally, claimed victory with a total of 196.775.

The competition commenced for Utah State on bars, where they scored 48.875, followed by 48.325 on vault, 48.500 on floor, and 48.750 on beam.

Rotation One – Bars (48.875)
Utah State commenced the meet with a score of 48.875 on bars, with four gymnasts performing on the apparatus for the first time: sophomore Sydney Jelen and freshmen Kaylie Medrano, Olivia Orengo, and Lundyn VanderToolen. Graduate Brianna Brooks and VanderToolen topped USU with scores of 9.800, tying for sixth place. Medrano scored 9.775, while Jelen and Orengo both scored 9.750. Junior Avery Bibbey completed the scoring with 9.000.

Rotation Two – Vault (48.325)
For the second rotation, Utah State transitioned to vault, achieving a score of 48.325, with four gymnasts competing in the event for the first time: senior Payton Gatzlaff, sophomore Isabelle Vater, along with Medrano and VanderToolen. Medrano led USU with a third-place score of 9.800, and Morabito contributed with a 9.750 to tie for fifth. VanderToolen scored 9.675, while Gatzlaff recorded a 9.650. Vater finished with 9.450, and Brooks scored 8.375.

Rotation Three – Floor (48.500)
Two Aggies experienced their inaugural competition on the floor: Medrano and Orengo, while USU scored 48.500. Morabito led the team with a score of 9.850, taking second place, followed by Medrano and Vater, each scoring 9.675. Orengo and Stuart both achieved 9.650, whereas graduate Jenna Eagles posted 9.575.

Rotation Four – Beam (48.750)
Utah State concluded the competition with a score of 48.750 on beam, featuring first-time performers Medrano and Orengo. Brooks, Jelen, and Orengo all scored 9.775, tying for eighth place, while Eagles registered 9.725, and sophomore Mya Witte achieved 9.700. Medrano earned a score of 9.075.
