The women’s swim and dive team at the University of Arizona commenced the New Year in Tucson by facing off against the NAU Lumberjacks at Hillenbrand Aquatics Center on Friday, January 3. The Wildcats concluded the competition with a lead of 82 points, finishing with a score of 162.5 in comparison to NAU’s 80.5.

Throughout the one-day event, Arizona exhibited dominance, clinching first place in 10 out of the 13 events. The Wildcats achieved several top finishes in both individual and relay races, demonstrating their power and adaptability.

Arizona excelled in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events. Lexi Duchsherer (23.27), Riley Botton (23.36), and Julia Urbanowski (24.19) swept the 50-meter event.

Moreover, Botton secured third place in the 100-meter with a time of 51.46, following Julia Wozniak (51.37) in second and Alyssa Schwengel (50.43) who took first.

Together with Wozniak, Duchsherer, and Botton, Schwengel claimed victory in the 200-meter freestyle relay, completing it in 1:32.09. Schwengel also played a key role in the triumph of the 400-medley relay, alongside Paige Armstrong and Eleni Gewalt, finishing with a time of 3:44.25.

Divers Zarah Ayazi and Brooke Earley secured first and second places in the 1-meter dive, achieving scores of 286.73 and 265.20, respectively. Earley also achieved third place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 250.95, following second-place competitor Maria Colombo.

Upcoming Events

The next competition for Arizona will be against the University of Minnesota on Saturday, January 18 at 10 a.m. This matchup against the Gophers signifies the Wildcats’ final home meet for the remainder of the season.
