Brace for Impact: Winter Storm Set to Disrupt Travel Plans

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) – A winter storm is anticipated to generate dangerous travel conditions throughout the remainder of the weekend. Numerous winter weather warnings have been distributed across the kyou viewing region.

Temperatures tonight will drop to the low to mid-teens as snowfall approaches. During the overnight hours, snow will persist across northeast Missouri and occasionally extend into parts of southeast Iowa. This will likely continue into Sunday and carry over into Sunday night, with Sunday high temperatures reaching the upper teens and low 20s.

The arid air on the northern aspect of this winter storm will restrict how far northward the snowfall can extend. Additionally, the dry air will establish a very defined boundary between regions experiencing heavy snowfall and regions receiving little to no snow. Within the same county, there might be several inches of variability in snow totals from the northern border to the southern border of the county. Where the snow does accumulate, hazardous travel conditions are expected to commence tonight and persist through Sunday night. Some drifting and blowing snow will also be a concern from Sunday into Sunday night. If feasible, remain in place and refrain from traveling until road conditions improve.

Once the winter storm departs Sunday night, we can anticipate a tranquil, yet chilly week with high temperatures in the 20s and lows in the single digits and teens.
