Kansas City Metro Gripped by Winter Storm: Flights and Trains Grounded

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Severe winter conditions and Blizzard Alerts have disrupted travel arrangements throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area this weekend.

Beginning Saturday afternoon, ice from freezing rain covered vehicles, streets, train tracks, and runways with a thick layer of frost. By Sunday morning, intense winds and snowfall commenced, resulting in some areas of the metro facing potential totals of 10 to 15 inches by Monday morning.

This winter storm has led to flights at MCI and train services at Amtrak stations canceling their schedules and routes for Sunday.

If you anticipate being affected by the travel disruptions, here’s what you need to know:

All flights to MCI from other airports have been called off until approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, based on flight timetables available early Sunday morning.

As for departing flights from MCI, these will not recommence until around 1:55 p.m. Sunday, offering some travelers the opportunity to escape the winter storm weather.

Updates regarding delays and cancellations will be reflected on each airline’s application before they are displayed on the airport’s flight information monitors.

Amtrak has announced a major adjustment of service routes nationwide, particularly within Missouri, due to Winter Storm Blair.

According to its website, both Missouri River Runner trains, 311 and 316, have been canceled between St. Louis and Kansas City.

Additionally, both Lincoln Service Missouri River Runner Trains, 318 and 319, have also been called off between Kansas City and Chicago.

No updates are available for Monday or Tuesday, yet Amtrak has already begun canceling services in other regions of the United States.
