Lindenwood Triumphs Over Women’s Basketball in Thrilling Matchup

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE battled vigorously against Lindenwood, ultimately losing with a score of 73-59.
 
The Cougars’ record now stands at 2-11 overall and 0-3 in OVC competition. The Lions enhance their record to 7-6 and 3-1 in OVC games.
 
Jaiden Bryant exhibited an impressive performance against the Lions, scoring 10 points and making 62 percent (5-8) of her shots from the floor. She also secured eight rebounds, marking a new season-high, along with two assists.
 
KK Rodriguez topped the team with 17 points, achieving 75 percent (6-8) shooting from the field, including 3-8 from beyond the arc. Additionally, she contributed four steals. Macy Silvey added 12 points and two rebounds.
 
Ellie Brueggemann scored the initial points for Lindenwood, assisting the Lions in obtaining a 15-point lead with 4:02 remaining.
 
KK Rodriguez made her first three-pointer of the contest with 3:21 left in the first quarter, helping to reduce the deficit. Jaiden Bryant followed with a last-second layup at the end of the first quarter, narrowing the Lions’ lead to eight points.
 
The Cougars discovered their rhythm in the second quarter, following a three-pointer from Macy Silvey with 8:23 left.
 
Kendal George nailed two threes, propelling SIUE into the lead, until Lindenwood’s Gracy Wernli equalized at 29-29 with 3:31 remaining in the second quarter.
 
Silvey hit her second three of the game to level the score at 34 with 54 seconds left in the first half, but Bruggemann quickly answered with a three-pointer, putting the Lions ahead 37-34 at halftime.
 
After halftime, the Lions jumped to an early 11-point advantage when Jaiden Bryant made a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Molly Sheehan with 4:26 remaining in the third.
 
SIUE lost momentum in the fourth quarter as Lindenwood established a 16-point lead, their largest of the match, with 3:10 left. The Cougars rallied back with an eight-point run initiated by a layup from Bryant.
 
Next, the Cougars travel to Charleston, Ill., to compete against Eastern Illinois. The game is scheduled to commence at 5:00 p.m.
