Stanford Cardinals Face Tough Defeat Against Pittsburgh Panthers

PITTSBURGH – Concluding its initial East Coast journey during its debut ACC season, Stanford men’s basketball was defeated by Pittsburgh, 83-68, at the Peterson Events Center. Following this outcome, the Cardinal falls to 9-5 for the season and 1-2 in the ACC.

Maxime Raynaud spearheaded the offense with 21 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. This match marked Raynaud’s ninth game of 20 points or more this season, as he entered the matchup ranked in the top-10 nationally for both scoring and rebounding. Chisom Okpara contributed a season-best 14 points off the bench, while Jaylen Blakes and Oziyah Sellers each added eight points.

Stanford commenced strongly against Pitt (12-2, 3-0 ACC), executing a 14-2 run to lead at the second media timeout, 18-9. Raynaud accounted for 11 of Stanford’s initial 20 points and finished the first half with 14 points, but Pittsburgh concluded the period with a 20-5 run, leading at halftime, 38-30.

The Panthers resumed with the momentum from the first half, netting the first eight points of the second period. Okpara netted 11 points in the second half, and Stanford collectively converted 18-for-20 from the charity stripe during the final 20 minutes.

This encounter marked the fourth in the history of the program and the first away game at Pitt between these two institutions.

Stanford heads back home on Wednesday, Jan. 8 to take on Virginia Tech. The 6 p.m. match will be broadcast on ACC Network.
