Behind the Curtains: Fascinating Insights on Our Favorite Golden Globes Champions!

In the realm of award ceremonies, the Golden Globes holds a reputation for being quite light-hearted. There are beverages! There are witty remarks about its lack of seriousness! And did I mention the beverages? This year, the award ceremony truly embraced its laid-back, informal identity, inserting live broadcasts with pop-up trivia about the presenters and awardees. The Oscars, Grammys, and such would never! (But perhaps they ought to …)

As winners and presenters graced the stage at the 2025 Golden Globes, the viewing public was delighted with tidbits of trivia reminiscent of VH1’s Pop-Up Video. Did you know that Zoe Saldaña’s favorite karaoke song is “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin? Or that Auli’i Cravalho has a cat allergy? Well, now you’re aware, and isn’t discovering trivial information about celebrities enjoyable? I mean, it must be. Why else do we instinctively search for a celebrity’s age every time they unexpectedly appear in the show? What other reason does IMDb serve?

Some fun trivia was related to the nominated projects. (Did you know Emilia Pérez was initially conceived as an opera?) Others provided a glimpse into an actor’s background prior to fame. (Morris Chestnut was previously a bank teller!) Some trivia seemed to stem from a brief Wikipedia exploration. (Jennifer Coolidge’s debut acting role was on Seinfeld; Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning boasts an “extensive list of credits.”) Certain facts came from past interviews. (Ke Huy Quan found inspiration to return to acting after viewing Crazy Rich Asians.) Yet, the most entertaining tidbits were those that lacked any clear connection or rationale, having no evident relationship to the industry, and no clear reasoning for how the trivia became known.

For instance, Demi Moore possesses over 2,000 vintage dolls. Before his acting career, Andrew Garfield was employed at multiple Starbucks outlets; he was frequently reassigned for “always being caught sitting down by management.” Vin Diesel has a strong passion for Dungeons & Dragons, and I’m Still Here star Fernanda Torres considers memes to be a higher form of art.

Nonetheless, I find myself with more inquiries than responses: Was this trivia curated by the Golden Globes writing team? Or perhaps the teams of the celebrities? What about the unseen trivia for the other nominees — will those ever be revealed? Am I supposed to look those up myself??
