Mao Mushika concluded the Hawaii tournament with a singles victory on Sunday in Honolulu.


HONOLULU – The California women’s tennis squad excelled in singles competition on Sunday at the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational, thereby wrapping up their initial tournament of 2025. The Golden Bears achieved a 7-1 record in singles on the final day of this yearly Hawaii event, with sophomore Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and newcomer Greta Greco Lucchina each ending the competition with an unbeaten 3-0 record at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
Schomburg claimed victory over Hawaii’s Hannah Galindo 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday, while Greco Lucchina triumphed over the Rainbow Wahine’s Emma Forgac 6-1, 6-1. Senior Jessica Alsola emerged victorious 6-4, 6-2 against UH’s Peppi Ramstedt, and all four of the nationally ranked Bears secured wins against their Hawaii rivals – 35th-ranked Katja Wiersholm defeated Sheena Masuda 6-4, 6-2, 63rd-ranked Lan Mi overcame Ana Vilcek 6-3, 6-0, 71st-ranked Mao Musika bested Makeilah Nepomuceno 6-2, 6-4, and 81st-ranked Berta Passola Folch outperformed Nikola Homolkova 6-4, 6-3.
 
Cal also ventured into doubles play in Hawaii, securing one victory on Sunday when Lucchina and Mushika defeated Masuda and Ramstedt 6-3.
 
The Bears will host their annual Cal Winter Invitational from Friday through next Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts in Berkeley.
