“Introducing the Enchanting Loess Hills: A Photography Showcase Opening January 14 at Sioux City’s Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center”

A fresh exhibition in our Main Gallery will showcase the photography of members and friends/contributors of the Loess Hills Audubon Society: Carey Anderson, Mark Haindfield, Ed & Karlene Hohenstein, Bill Huser, Marla & Kevin Kerr, Jerry Mennenga, Jan Null, Jon Nylen, Don Poggensee, Rex Rundquist, Rob Towler, Todd Wheelock, and Randall Williams. The exhibition will be on display until February 23.

Birdwatching was a favored activity in the Sioux City region during the early 1900s, leading to the formation of the Sioux City Bird Club (SCBC) in 1913. When the SCBC discontinued its operations as a birdwatching organization, a group of enthusiasts remained interested in birdwatching, resulting in the establishment of the Sioux City Chapter of the National Audubon Society. This chapter transitioned into the Loess Hills Audubon Society (LHAS) upon formal incorporation by the Secretary of State of Iowa on June 1, 1984. The Loess Hills Audubon Society typically convenes on the first Thursday of each month from September to May, with monthly outings to prime birdwatching spots across Siouxland.
