ST. LOUIS – After evaluating the most recent forecast from the National Weather Service, the Missouri Department of Transportation is advising drivers to refrain from using the roadways and to avoid traveling on Monday.

Due to drifting snow and ice build-up, traveling will be “impossible,” according to the NWS.

Snowfall is predicted to persist into Monday, and even though MoDOT crews will be plowing roads and highways, wind gusts will reduce visibility and cause snow to be blown back onto the roadways.

With ice accumulation and heavy cloud coverage, the process of treating and clearing the roads will take additional time.

Check FOX 2’s traffic map for current updates.

“Motorists in regions with snow and ice accumulation should remain vigilant even after this precipitation ceases,” stated MoDOT Chief Safety and Operations Officer Becky Allmeroth. “Our teams will most likely need the entirety of Monday to restore major routes in these affected areas to satisfactory conditions, so it is essential that people continue to refrain from traveling.”

The transportation department currently has over 1,500 snowplows operating statewide with crews working in 12-hour shifts.

Information regarding Missouri road conditions is accessible 24/7 on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org via desktop and mobile devices. Additionally, drivers can stay updated on road conditions by following MoDOT on Facebook and X or by calling 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636) to speak with a customer service representative. Motorists can also dial the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s emergency number *55 to connect with the nearest troop headquarters.
