In a wintry paradise today (Monday), many families were seen reveling in some snow day excitement on a hill close to the Rosslyn area’s Netherlands Carillon.

Fort Myer resident Ben Wolfert brought his two sons, Nate and Josh, for an afternoon escapade on the incline situated across from the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, recognized as one of the finest sledding spots in Arlington by ARLnow readers.

“During the entire time we’ve lived in the area — which has been around eight years now — it’s generally not that busy here, yet it remains a popular choice,” Wolfert informed ARLnow. “It’s a nice hill.”

The family dedicated their morning to taking their “very thrilled” dog out in the snow, Wolfert noted. His sons, aged 7 and 10, were inside playing Fortnite before they decided to come out and sled.

“It’s wonderful to have snow,” Wolfert expressed. “You know, in recent winters, we haven’t often had sufficient snow to sled like this.”

Courthouse resident Jane Green had a similar plan for her sons, Fisher and Elliot. While technically working from home, she spent a good portion of the day giving her family some winter joy.

“We played in our courtyard for a little while this morning while waiting for the snow to finally stop,” Green shared. “Then we had lunch, bundled up, and walked down here.”

Green mentioned that the family has also previously gone sledding at locations such as Rocky Run Park (1109 N. Barton Street) and a hill on S. Eads Street.

Asfor the Wolferts, they intend to spend the remainder of the day in the coziness of their residence — likely with a cup of hot cocoa in hand.

“We’ll likely do a bit more work and keep our fingers crossed for school tomorrow,” Wolfert remarked. “To be honest, it’s probably not going to happen, but one can still wish.”
