Travel Alerts Issued: Counties Affected by Severe Storm Conditions

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security reports that all but one of Bartholomew and its neighboring counties have escalated their alert status for local travel to travel warnings, which is the utmost level.

As of 9:45 p.m., Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, and Brown counties are now under the warning status. This indicates that travel is confined to emergency management personnel only. During a warning, you should

• Avoid all travel;
• Adhere to necessary emergency protocols;
• Assist public officials and disaster response teams in executing emergency operation strategies; and
• Follow and abide by the lawful commands of duly identified officers.

In Shelby County, officials have initiated a travel watch alert. Under a travel watch, conditions pose a risk to public safety. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only crucial travel, such as commuting to and from work or in emergency situations, is advised, and emergency action strategies should be enacted by businesses, educational institutions, government bodies, and other organizations.

A travel advisory represents the lowest tier of travel alert. Under a travel advisory, routine travel or activities may be limited in particular regions due to a hazardous situation, and individuals should exercise caution or avoid those areas.
