Why Apple Missed the Mark on This Year’s Ultimate Tech Sensation!

As we approach the conclusion of 2024, you’ve likely observed our recent surge of activity—it’s time to unveil our top selections and disappointments amidst the holiday season’s feast!

So, which item intrigued me this year? While it’s consistently challenging to select just one, my choice was swift this time: it’s undoubtedly the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

Considering the popularity of my evaluation (nearly 80,000 views on YouTube and similarly numerous on the blog), there’s no doubt that this item has attracted interest well beyond the Apple ecosystem. It’s unsurprising, as almost every eyewear store front appears to be enticing individuals to try them on, and they represent more than half of Ray-Ban’s sales!

Apple Should Have Developed These!

I won’t reiterate the entire review, but I must confess that these glasses have become a much larger aspect of my life than I initially anticipated! They have assumed many functions of my iPhone (listening to music, dictating messages, and capturing photos and videos…) and have entirely eclipsed my daily use of AirPods, save for rare instances such as for noise cancellation during flights.

I’m also observing an increasing number of individuals acquiring a second pair for computer work or reading, minus the solar lenses. The ease of having earphones without actually wearing any cannot be overstated—you can, for example, listen to a message or view a video unobtrusively without appearing disconnected from your environment… especially since AirPods aren’t always comfortable for everyone.

It’s astonishing that Apple hasn’t introduced a comparable product, as it aligns well with the brand’s philosophy: a straightforward, practical, useful item devoid of superfluous technology. However, the sole drawback is that it’s not comprehensively integrated with the iPhone (notifications, images, Siri…) Has Tim Cook even experienced these glasses?

Promising Future Ahead!

Although European regulations considerably restrict innovation, the future potential for these smart glasses is immense.

While many fantasize about having a built-in display (which is forthcoming, but not immediately), they currently provide real-time translation functionalities. I frequently travel to locations where I am not proficient in the local language, and these would facilitate seamless comprehension with no effort required from the speaker. Another feature already available in the USA is leveraging AI to recognize what you observe: identifying the contents of an item in a store, comparing prices, or retrieving information about landmarks you’re visiting—the possibilities are limitless!

Eventually, once manufacturers succeed in incorporating a display overlay and streamlining interactions, the iPhone might only be utilized for typing and transmitting data to the glasses. For Apple, this poses a considerable risk, particularly if smartphones become less indispensable for daily usage…
