AMD Unveils Cutting-Edge Processors for Desktops, Laptops, and Portable Gaming Powerhouses!

Today, AMD unveiled a range of new processor models during its CES 2025 showcase. The corporation also provided a sneak peek at its forthcoming desktop graphics as well as the next iteration of FSR image upscaling.

Commencing with the CPUs, AMD revealed two new Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D are modifications of the 9950X and the 9900X but incorporate the firm’s 3D V-cache technology, which enhances gaming performance via a considerably enlarged cache size.

Relative to the preceding generation 7950X3D, AMD asserts that the 9950X3D delivers, on average, an 8% increase in gaming performance while being 20% quicker than Intel’s most recent Core Ultra 9 285K. The performance will be on par with the 9800X3D, so if you don’t need the extra cores of the 9950X3D for productivity purposes, then opting for the 9800X3D for gaming might be the preferable choice.

Following this, AMD also revealed updates for its Ryzen Z series of processors, which are utilized in handheld gaming devices such as the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go. The new generation is spearheaded by the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which is built on the same ‘Strix Point’ architecture as AMD’s newest notebook processors. The Z2 Extreme will feature 8 cores, blending Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores, all paired with an upgraded RDNA 3.5 GPU that contains 16 graphics cores.

Stepping down to the Ryzen Z2, you find yourself in familiar grounds as it appears to be a mere rebranded Ryzen Z1 Extreme. This implies an inclusion of 8 Zen 4 cores accompanied by 12 RDNA 3 graphics cores. Finally, a new model named Ryzen Z2 Go has been introduced, featuring an even earlier Zen 3+ CPU with only 4 cores plus an RDNA 2 GPU with 12 graphics cores. It is somewhat disheartening that there exists such a significant variation within these three processors that share the same branding, but this is not an unfamiliar scenario for AMD’s mobile processor division.

Regarding mobile processors, AMD also launched three new Ryzen 9000HX Series chips for high-performance gaming laptops. This lineup includes the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which is the sole processor in the series to feature 3D V-cache. There’s also the 9955HX without the V-cache but maintaining the same 16 cores, and finally, the 9850HX with 12 cores.

The company presented a substantial array of Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI Max PRO, Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen AI 300 PRO, along with two new Ryzen 200 and Ryzen 200 PRO series processors, which are too extensive to detail here.

Ryzen mobile chips

AMD also provided a brief insight into its forthcoming RDNA 4 based Radeon 9000 series graphics cards. The company hinted at the Radeon 9070XT and the Radeon 9070, which will launch in Q1 2025 from various board partners. These will compete directly with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, expected to be revealed later today during Nvidia’s CES keynote.

In conclusion, AMD also disclosed that the next version of FSR4 technology will utilize machine learning, much akin to DLSS and XeSS, and that it’s specifically optimized for the corporation’s RDNA 4 based graphics processors. Currently, further details are not publicly available.
