Four EMS personnel from Greenville County were dismissed after capturing personal pictures at the site of a teenager’s passing.

The GCEMS conducted an internal review after discovering that staff were taking images at the scene of Kamel Seveion Sewell’s fatal go-kart accident at Frankie’s Fun Park, as per Greenville County representative Bob Mihalic.

On December 27, Sewell from Simpsonville lost his life when the go-kart he was operating collided with a large industrial forklift, which was also being driven by a park employee.

Sewell was verifying the track for security risks before the park’s opening. Sewell’s death was recorded shortly after 11:42 a.m.

Mihalic indicated that GCEMS employees took pictures with their personal gadgets at the location. Four staff members were let go, and three supervisors faced disciplinary action.

As stated by one of the family’s lawyers, Blake Smith from Parham, Smith and Archenhold, the photographs taken at the scene were shared and circulated among others.

“We do not have all the specifics yet, but I can assert that we are extremely concerned regarding when and why this transpired,” Smith expressed. “The family’s anguish in losing Seveion has been aggravated by the actions of these employees. The trauma of December 27 just continues to escalate for the family.”

According to Mihalic, the investigation by the county is ongoing.

“We are striving to provide them answers to a multitude of inquiries about the events that transpired that day and now, regrettably, about what happened afterward. It is, quite frankly, astonishing,” Smith stated.
