BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Two exceptional athletes from Wheeling University have been recognized as the Mountain East Conference’s Male and Female Swimmers of the Week. The MEC Player of the Week accolades are sponsored by The Health Plan.

The Cardinals’ Euan MacLeod has received the title of MEC Male Swimmer of the Week for the third occasion this season, while Wheeling’s Gabby Baiano has secured her second MEC Female Swimmer of the Week award.

A freshman originating from Glasgow, Scotland, MacLeod showcased multiple impressive performances during Wheeling’s winter training excursion to Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University. Along with competing in a leg of WU’s winning 200 Medley Relay team, he secured two second-place finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyle competitions.

Baiano, a junior hailing from Bridgeville, Pa., also made a significant impact at the North Carolina competition. The Cardinal junior garnered individual victories in the 200 Freestyle (2:03.34) and 500 Freestyle (5:29.43) and swam the initial leg of Wheeling’s 200 Freestyle Relay, which finished second with a time of 1:52.29.
