Swimming and Diving

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving program is splitting its efforts between two events this weekend. The diving squad is hosting its yearly UB Diving Invite from Friday through Sunday, with Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Akron, and Duquesne coming to compete against the Bulls. Simultaneously, the swimming team will head to Duquesne University on Saturday to take on the Dukes at 11 am.

UB DIVING INVITE
Friday marks the commencement of the competitive weekend in the diving area, highlighting three-meter diving. The preliminary round is scheduled for 11 am, after which the top 12 divers will advance to the finals.

Marialis Kwak has been the standout for the Bulls this season, winning each of the four three-meter events the team has participated in so far. During Akron’s Zippy Invite, the senior triumphed with a score of 300.15 in a field of 20 divers, also achieving a season-best score of 304.70 in the preliminary round. Mallory Hanna (3rd, 280.80) and Sophie Meuwissen (4th, 281.18) also claimed top-five finishes.

On Saturday, the diving teams will continue the competition at 11 am with one-meter diving. The top 12 divers will compete in the finals that follow. The teams will also participate in a team diving event that afternoon.

Kwak has also emerged victorious in all four one-meter diving competitions that the Bulls have entered this season, including her win at Zippy Invite in a field of 22 divers, where she scored 295.20 in the finals. Senior Presley Dorsett also secured a podium position at Akron, finishing third with a finals score of 265.70. Meuwissen (4th, 264.10) and Hanna (5th, 263.70) also achieved top-five placements, positioning four Bulls among the leading divers. Hanna made her mark in the program’s record books in the preliminary round of one-meter at the Zippy Invite, scoring 280.60, which ranks ninth all-time.

On the opening day at Akron, the Bulls also clinched victory in the team diving competition. Buffalo’s trio of Kwak, Dorsett, and Kaylee Donovan took the first spot with a score of 296.80. The Bulls also secured second place with another team comprising Hanna, Daphne Fox, and Maggie Meyers, finishing with a score of 253.10.

Sunday will conclude the diving competition with platform diving at 10:30 am. The Bulls have not yet participated in platform diving this season.

SWIM AT DUQUESNE
The swim team will compete on Saturday at Duquesne in a head-to-head swimming-only meet starting at 11 am. This matchup signifies the seventh consecutive season that these two programs have faced off, and the ninth overall, with the Bulls winning eight out of the nine encounters.

In the pool, the Bulls are building on an impressive showing at the Zippy Invite, where they finished third out of six teams while setting a new individual school record and five new all-time top ten times.

Mia Naccarella surpassed her previous school record of 52.74 in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.43. Naccarella also completed the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.99, coming in less than a second shy of her personal record (1:56.21), which ranks third in program history.

Isabella Forsman achieved three individual top-five finishes at the Zippy Invite as well. The freshman’s results included a victory in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.30), a third-place finish in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.56), and a fourth-place finish in the finals of the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.46). Forsman’s time in the 400-yard individual medley was a personal best that placed her seventh all-time in the program records. She also finished first among 52 swimmers in the preliminary round of the 200-yard individual medley with a personal record of 2:01.71, making her way into the all-time program record books as well.

Grace Rider and Ava Pauly left their mark on program history in the 100-yard breaststroke. Rider improved her standing on the all-time leaderboard for the 100-yard breaststroke by finishing fourth with a time of 1:02.30 in the event finals, breaking her previous record of 1:03.05 set at last year’s MAC Championships. Pauly joined Rider in the record books, placing 10th with a personal record time of 1:03.41, which ranks 10th all-time in the program’s history for the event.
