The Burien Arts Association is set to commence the new year with Spying on a Memory, an exhibition at the Highline Heritage Museum that will feature the poignant photography of Ron Hammond.

The exhibition will be available from January until March 2025 at the Burien Arts Gallery Wall within the museum, situated at 819 SW 152nd Street in Burien (map below).

An inaugural reception is scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 10, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Community members are encouraged to meet the artist and enjoy the exhibition.

Hammond, a photographer boasting over 50 years of expertise, is renowned for capturing the subtle beauty of daily life. He draws inspiration from humanist photographers such as Robert Doisneau and describes himself as a “fisherman of images,” characterizing his approach as “patiently waiting with a baited camera at a captivating time and place.”

The exhibition encompasses two decades of Hammond’s artistry, much of which is categorized into “loosely-defined, open-ended projects that are rarely completed but frequently halt in intriguing locations for a show or a handmade or published book,” he explained.

The Burien Arts Association, committed to enhancing the community through the arts and culture, invites all to discover Hammond’s exhibition and learn more about his artistry.

Hammond’s path as a predominantly self-taught photographer has been supported by studies at institutions such as the Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle and guided by mentors Russell Drisch and Nick Hansen. His works have been featured in prominent publications, including the Seattle TimesSeattle Post-IntelligencerBuffalo Evening NewsNew York Review of Books, and New York Times.
