MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ereauna Hardaway’s layup with just two seconds left secured the victory, propelling UNT past Memphis, 73-71, at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

With around 30 family members and friends traveling from Jonesboro, Ark., to Memphis, Hardaway delivered the decisive basket for the Mean Green after Memphis had leveled the score at 71 with six seconds remaining. The junior guard concluded the game with 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

The Mean Green and Memphis contested fiercely throughout the entire 40 minutes, with UNT holding the advantage for 36 minutes, compared to just two minutes for the Tigers. The game’s largest margin occurred after a 6-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter, allowing North Texas to leap ahead by nine.

Shortly following UNT’s surge, Memphis responded with its own 8-0 streak and ultimately took a 64-63 lead with 3:04 remaining. Aniyah Johnson reclaimed the advantage for the Mean Green with a crucial and-one shot and successfully made the free throw before Alasia Smith leveled the game at 71 with her own layup.

Johnson achieved her first double double of the season and her fourth career double double, accumulating 14 points and 10 rebounds. With Tommisha Lampkin contributing 14 points and 13 rebounds, they became the first UNT teammates to achieve double doubles in the same game since Lampkin and Kernal did so against East Carolina on Feb. 27, 2024.

Desiree Wooten rounded out the Mean Green’s double-digit scorers, ending the game with 12 points.

North Texas has extended its winning streak to four games, advancing to an 11-4 record this season and maintaining a 3-0 mark in conference play as of Saturday. The Mean Green will embark on another road trip on Wednesday, facing Tulane at 6:30 p.m. CT in New Orleans.
