TEAMS OPERATING AROUND THE CLOCK

The Missouri Department of Transportation is advising motorists to refrain from traveling through Monday in the areas most affected by severe weather. Significant snowfall, extremely low temperatures, and cloud cover will keep MoDOT teams engaged continuously to clear the roadways over the next few days. The northern region of Missouri, particularly from Interstate 70 northward, has received snowfall ranging from 8 inches to over a foot, with certain areas in northwestern Missouri accumulating nearly two feet.

Today, drivers should anticipate significant snow on entrance and exit ramps, outer roads, and non-interstate routes. If motorists find themselves stuck while driving, it is advisable to remain inside the vehicle to prevent the risk of another vehicle skidding into you. Additionally, being outside in these frigid temperatures is not advisable. The materials utilized for road clearance are also less efficient in these conditions.

“We appreciate the residents of Missouri for following the warnings and staying off the roads during the storm. We need continued understanding in the upcoming days as crews work diligently to remove the snow and cleared fallen trees from the ice,” stated MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger. “Our team will keep working around the clock, and we are reallocating staff from the southern regions of the state to the north to assist in recovery from this significant storm.”

“We also extend our gratitude to our emergency response partners, including the State Emergency Management Agency, Missouri Department of Public Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Missouri National Guard for their coordinated effort during this storm,” added Hassinger.

Throughout the state, MoDOT has approximately 1,500 snow plows in operation, with crews conducting 12-hour shifts until roadways reach a mostly clear state. The road conditions in Missouri can be checked around the clock on the Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org on both desktop and mobile platforms. Additionally, drivers can stay updated on road conditions by following MoDOT on Facebook and X or by calling 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636) to communicate with a customer service representative. Motorists may also contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s emergency line *55 to reach the nearest troop headquarters.
