New Travel Warnings Issued as Latest Closures Unfold

Following several inches of snowfall, the road conditions in the Whitewater Valley are leading to a fresh wave of cancellations and delays for Monday, Jan. 6, and Tuesday, Jan. 7, as well as an extension of Wayne County’s travel alert.

Travel alert

• Wayne County Commissioners have prolonged the Level II snow emergency until noon Tuesday. Only trips for critical needs (employment, education, healthcare, necessary prescriptions, food, fuel, secure shelter, or first responders) are allowed on county roadways. The proclamation does not cover federal/state highways. For further details, contact Wayne County Emergency Management Agency at 765-973-9399.
• As of 4:45 p.m. Monday, Fayette County has maintained a red travel advisory (first responders exclusively).

Monday, Jan. 6

• Amvets Post 38 in Greens Fork is shut down.
• Harry Ray American Legion Post 65 in Richmond is shut down.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

Schools

• Centerville-Abington Community Schools are closed Tuesday.
• Fayette County School Corp. will implement another e-learning day. Details: fayette.k12.in.us/article/1945172
• Nettle Creek Schools will conduct e-learning. It is a Purple Day. Educators should have assignments posted by 9 a.m. Students from pre-K through second grade should receive packets for completion. E-learning submissions will be due by Jan. 14. Questions can be directed to teachers via email or ParentSquare.
• Northeastern will host another synchronous learning day. Students in grades K-12 are required to log into their Google Meeting sessions at 9 a.m. Preschool will be closed.
• Richmond Community Schools will be closed on Tuesday. Classes will be made up on Feb. 17. Students will not have e-learning or Canvas tasks. Staff are not required to report unless instructed by their supervisor.
• Seton Catholic Schools will be shut down on Tuesday. Classes will be performed on Jan. 20.
• Union County-College Corner Joint School District is closed. School will resume on Feb. 17.
• Western Wayne Schools will have another e-learning day. No sports events or practices will be held.

Organizations and Government

• Centerville Public Library will be closed on Tuesday.
• Hagerstown Library is shut down on Tuesday.
• Joseph Moore Museum at Earlham College is postponing its Tuesday opening until noon. The natural history/science museum will operate until 5 p.m. The Little Explorers weekly program is canceled.
• Reid Health will provide updates regarding its medical offices and other operations at reidhealth.org/winter-weather-information. As of Monday evening, Reid officials have announced that Reid Fitness will be operational from noon-6:30 p.m. Tuesday with no Medical Fitness or HIIT in the morning or Rock Steady Boxing in Connersville.
• Western Wayne Girl Scouts 03317’s gathering has been canceled. The cookie meeting is rescheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Dublin Friends Meeting.
• The menopause workshop at Dwyer Community Center, 1417 N. A St., Richmond. It is rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21. Admission is $10. RSVP at 765-488-2928.

Open confirmations

• Gateway Hunger Relief Center has confirmed it will be open from 10 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, at 715 Sheridan St., Richmond. gatewayhungerrelief.org
• The Emergency Warming Center is operational at LifeSpring Church, 501 S. Seventh St., Richmond. Doors on South E open at 6 p.m. Free transportation is available upon request when volunteers are able to assist. 765-313-9670

Warming resources

The Emergency Warming Center in Richmond is open Monday evening at LifeSpring Church South (501 S. Seventh St.) Enter through the South E entrance.

Several Wayne County volunteer fire stations will open for individuals in need of temporary emergency warming.
