It has become customary for Samsung to unofficially inaugurate the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with a presentation on the evening prior to the press day, showcasing its significant AV offerings and ‘themes’ for the upcoming year. Unsurprisingly, considering the extensive emphasis the brand placed on AI in its 2024 TV advertising (as elaborated in my 2024 article regarding AI in TVs), the primary focus of its 2025 pre-CES event was AI, or Samsung Vision AI, as it is currently termed.
SW Yong, the President and Head of Samsung’s Visual Display Division, set the atmosphere immediately during his opening address by stating, “Samsung perceives TVs not merely as one-way devices for passive consumption, but as interactive, intelligent allies that adjust to your requirements. Through Samsung Vision AI, we are re-envisioning what screens can accomplish, merging entertainment, personalization, and lifestyle solutions into one cohesive experience to streamline your life.”
Delving deeper into what this entails leads us to the ‘three As’: Aware, Adaptive, and Autonomous, where products must recognize their environment, adapt to user inclinations, and autonomously provide intuitive features.
The showcase fleshed out these philosophical ideas by presenting specific instances of what Vision AI can and will offer in Samsung’s 2025 lineup. For example, Click to Search will furnish viewers with instant information about what is currently being broadcast, identifying actors and related content, all without requiring you to pause your viewing experience.
Live Translate will enable real-time subtitle translations, whereas a Generative Wallpaper feature will allow Samsung Vision AI televisions to produce personalized artworks displayed on the screen.
Vision AI also broadens the integration of the SmartThings interconnected product ecosystem into Samsung televisions. For instance, a new Home insights function will provide real-time updates on your household setting, including safety notifications and daily summaries. This way, you can monitor your home even while you are away. Additionally, a new Pet and Family Care function allows you to monitor the well-being of both your family and pets, enabling you to, for example, automatically dim the lights in a room if a child has fallen asleep there, or record and keep an eye on what pets or family members are doing. Parents of teenagers might not feel daring enough to utilize this last feature, of course…
Of course, the Samsung Vision AI system also contains components aimed at enhancing your AV experience. Samsung’s new televisions will feature on-device picture and sound technologies that utilize AI to assess both content and your room conditions in order to consistently optimize performance. Thus, whether you are watching sports in a brightly lit space or a film in a darkened room, Vision AI should always provide you with the optimal picture settings.
Samsung’s increasing implementation of AI will see Microsoft Copilot integrated into several of its televisions and Smart Monitors for 2025, enabling seamless searching through remote control input or voice commands for relevant details regarding what’s being viewed, along with smooth access to Copilot services that include personalized content suggestions.
Samsung claims that its Vision AI system will be available across a broad spectrum of its 2025 TVs, encompassing its Neo QLED (QLED TVs with mini LEDs and local dimming), OLED, and more standard QLED models. However, it is to be expected that the most advanced version of Vision AI will appear in Samsung’s highest-end televisions — specifically its QN990F 8K Neo QLED models.
These flagship models will incorporate Samsung’s latest NQ8 AI Gen 3 processor, which will feature the most extensive and powerful picture- and sound-enhancing AI characteristics and techniques. Experience with the 2024’s QN900D flagship 8K television suggests that the newest 8K AI Upscaling Pro component of this processor will provide the most notable advantages of AI, adding millions of extra pixels to sub-8K content with unprecedented accuracy and naturalism.
Samsung also emphasizes the improved application of AI to: Its Auto HDR Remastering Pro feature for converting SDR images into convincingly vivid HDR in real-time; its Adaptive Sound Pro function for isolating different components of an audio track to enable more control over a sound mix’s balance; a Colour Booster Pro feature that applies AI-driven scene analysis to enhance colors without compromising their overall harmony and sense of refinement; and even a comprehensive AI Mode that applies AI processing to virtually every aspect of the picture and sound experience, taking into account room surroundings as well as the type of content being viewed.
Samsung was equally eager to showcase the QN990F’s new ultra-slim, ultra-minimalist design — although for me, the design highlights of Samsung’s CES showcase were its new Frame Pro televisions. These additions to Samsung’s long-standing and beloved The Frame TVs, which resemble framed paintings or photographs over conventional TVs, merge the familiar stylish Frame aesthetics with Samsung’s premium Neo QLED screen technology for the first time. Neo QLED screens incorporate Quantum Dot color systems with locally dimmed mini LED backlighting, allowing consumers attracted to the Frame’s appearance to no longer compromise on picture quality. This is especially true as the new Frame Pros are also powered by Samsung’s latest NQ4 Gen 3 AI processor.
Samsung has also significantly broadened the Art Store available on its televisions, where users can display artworks on their screens as screensavers when they are not actively viewing TV. This function is particularly beneficial on The Frame and Frame Pro TVs, of course, but it is now also accessible on almostevery Samsung television, encompassing its Micro LED, Neo QLED, and QLED varieties. The Art Store now offers access to over 3,000 selected pieces from an extensive array of global collaborators, including the Museum of Modern Art and the legacies of Basquiat and Magritte.
Samsung generally prefers to showcase some of its more ‘innovative’ and forward-thinking products at its pre-CES exhibition events. This time, that was highlighted by The Premiere 5 projector and a Micro LED Beauty Mirror.
The Premiere 5 merges a compact triple-laser UST projector design with innovative Samsung LightWARP technology, enabling users to project images and videos onto various objects within the home and even manage the projector through a touch image interaction interface. Additionally, The Premiere 5 is crafted to operate as a portable smart speaker for those who prefer listening to music instead of watching television or a movie.
The MicroLED Beauty Mirror effectively combines cutting-edge reflectance and transmittance technologies with customized beauty insights, which may include, for example, product suggestions tailored to an evaluation of your specific skin type, thereby making self-care “more intuitive and efficient.” Mirror, mirror on the wall, indeed…
Stay tuned for further insights from me regarding the detailed specifics of Samsung’s 2025 television lineup, including a comprehensive range breakdown, in the upcoming days.
