Never attempt to drive through floodwaters when you’re unsure of the depth. If the road’s surface is not visible beneath the water, it’s too deep! Merely six inches of water can lead you to lose control of your vehicle or stall it due to water being drawn into the engine and exhaust.

Two feet of flowing water can easily sweep away most vehicles (including large 4x4s), and most cars can commence to float in as little as a foot of water.

If you come across a flooded roadway, always seek an alternative path. Heed Road Closed signs—they are posted for your safety.
