Bearcats Suffer Defeat on the Road Against Baylor Bears

WACO, Texas — Baylor achieved a 50 percent shooting rate in the first half with only three turnovers, whereas Cincinnati faced difficulties in establishing its offensive flow in a 68-48 loss to the Bears on Tuesday evening.

Cincinnati entered the match ranked sixth nationally in KenPom for defense, while also being placed in the top-20 for several defensive metrics.

Dan Skillings topped UC with 18 points, marking a season-best across all three Big 12 games, including 18 points against both Kansas State and Arizona.

Day Day Thomas’ consecutive three-pointers midway through the first half responded to Baylor scores. He is currently 15-for-35 this season (42.9 percent). 

The Bears extended their greatest advantage to 27-18 with 6:40 remaining, initiating a timeout for Cincinnati. The lead ballooned to as many as 16 before settling at a 35-20 margin at halftime, with the Bearcats unable to close the gap to single-digits afterward.

Aziz Bandaogo contributed 11 points. UC began the evening 12-1 and 6-0 this year when he reached this milestone.

“We certainly engaged in discussions on the bench among the coaching staff regarding various aspects (during the game). Our half-court, man-to-man defense has been the most consistent element we’ve maintained throughout the year. I sensed tonight that when we focused on all five players, we anticipated a breakthrough. Credit to them, they secured several baskets in transition and our defense showed a lack of urgency in getting back.”
