NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – We are continuing to monitor a winter storm that is targeting the Midstate for Friday and Friday night.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY – FRIDAY

Snow is anticipated to begin before dawn along the Tennessee River and progress eastward across the Midstate during our morning rush hour. Snowfall will persist throughout the day with most regions in the Midstate expecting at least 3″ of snow, while some areas further south may see even greater accumulation. Certain locations in southern Middle Tennessee might reach 5-7″ before the snow completely concludes overnight on Friday.

Travel will likely be greatly affected all day on Friday and possibly into early Saturday. If travel is necessary, please allow yourself ample extra time and proceed cautiously on those snow-covered roads. Flights in and out of Nashville International Airport could also experience disruptions throughout the day.

Today and Thursday

Arctic air will linger over the Midstate on Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures hovering in the lower to mid-30s and overnight lows dropping into the 20s and teens. Be sure to dress warmly, though the weather will remain stable, allowing us to brace for the winter storm on Friday.

This Weekend

The effects of our winter storm will extend into Saturday morning, so if you have travel plans, be prepared to allocate some additional time early in the day. Saturday afternoon is expected to be mostly overcast with some lingering flurries and temperatures in the mid-30s.

Sunday will bring slightly warmer conditions with highs in the upper 30s and some afternoon sunshine. As the snow begins to melt during the day, there’s potential for refreezing overnight with lows in the 20s and teens once more.

Next Week

On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will range from the mid-30s to close to 40 in the afternoon, with a blend of clouds and sunshine on both days.
