Bueckers and Strong Spotlighted in Midseason Wooden Award Top 25 Showcase!

LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong from the UConn women’s basketball team were recognized in the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list, as disclosed by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Tuesday.

Bueckers is leading the Huskies with an average of 19.9 points per game and a total of 60 assists. This season, she has had nine performances where she scored at least 20 points. Recognized as one of the most proficient guards in the country, Bueckers boasts a shooting accuracy of 55.9 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from beyond the arc this year. She is ranked eighth nationally with a 3.16 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Bueckers earned the 2021 Wooden Award as a freshman and was selected as a 2024 Wooden Award All-American.

Strong, the top-ranked recruit for this season, has proven to be a significant asset for the Huskies. She has consistently reached double digits in scoring throughout every game, achieving six 20-point games and three double-doubles. Strong leads UConn in rebounds, blocks, and steals and ranks second in scoring.

She is the sole freshman featured on the Wooden midseason top 25 list.

UConn is among five programs with multiple athletes on the midseason roster.

UConn will return to the XL Center next Wednesday to face Xavier (5-9, 0-3) at 7:30 p.m. The Huskies will honor Pride Night to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
