CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Young Tar Heel supporters are encouraged to join the Carolina women’s sports teams for the 2025 UNC National Girls & Women in Sports Day, a yearly occasion aimed at showcasing women’s athletics at Carolina, sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina along with Carolina Athletics. The NGWSD celebration is planned for Jan. 26 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Bill Koman Practice Complex located on the UNC campus.

This event is intended for children and adolescents from pre-K through eighth grade. There is no fee to take part, and everyone (including parents/guardians) who signs up in advance will receive a free ticket to the UNC women’s basketball match against Florida State that afternoon at noon in the nearby Carmichael Arena.

Free tickets to the women’s basketball game will be distributed to those who pre-register. No complimentary tickets will be available on the day of the event.

As the official health insurance partner of Carolina Athletics, Blue Cross NC has reinforced its dedication to women’s sports by sponsoring National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

Building on its pledge to enhance youth mental health, connectivity, and resilience, Blue Cross NC promotes involvement in sports and an active lifestyle that benefits both physical and mental wellness. By collaborating with youth, parents, and community leaders like Carolina Athletics, Blue Cross NC believes opportunities exist to challenge stigma surrounding mental health issues for young athletes.

The NGWSD event will feature mini-clinics for each sport, allowing children to experience a range of skills in a fun and youth-friendly atmosphere. Most of the 15 UNC women’s varsity teams – cross country, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, swimming & diving, track & field, and volleyball – will participate in the event.

Details about check-in and parking will be sent via email to registrants prior to the event.
