Roy Wood Jr. humorously comments on the evolving requirements of contemporary existence, touching on topics like dating and customer service in the official preview for his Hulu stand-up comedy special Lonely Flowers, which is scheduled to premiere on January 17.

“I was at the shooting range and witnessed someone receiving poor service — at the shooting range! How can you be disrespectful to someone who came to practice killing?” Wood Jr. remarked in the teaser that was released on Tuesday.

“At this rate, we aren’t going to make it,” he asserted at one moment, as the former correspondent for the Daily Show, currently hosting CNN’s Have I Got News for You, also lampooned the decline of personal interactions in this digital-heavy age. “The only time you encounter a staff member at the supermarket is when you mess up the self-checkout: ‘What have you done to the machine? Get out of there!’” he quipped.

His fourth stand-up special was recorded at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington in September. Wood Jr.’s previous special, Imperfect Messenger, was available on Paramount+. This Hulu special is part of the streamer’s strategy to promote monthly stand-up specials under the label “Hulu’s Laughing Now.”

Roy Wood Jr. served as a correspondent for The Daily Show for eight years. He guest-hosted the Comedy Central show in 2023 and headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2017.

He is also set to star alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the comedy Outcome. His other credits encompass the remake of Fletch by Paramount Pictures, titled Confess, Fletch, along with guest roles in Only Murders in the Building, Better Call Saul, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
