POSITION TITLE: Visiting Assistant Professor of Art, Photography and Digital Media (one-semester)

REPORTING TO: The Art Department

Overview of Position

Allegheny College, a distinguished national liberal arts institution, invites candidates to apply for a one-semester Visiting Assistant Professor opening in Art–Photography/Digital Media, commencing in August 2025. Applicants should possess an MFA and show a strong dedication to liberal arts education.

The preferred candidate will display a technical and analytical understanding of current issues in photography and digital media, as evident in both their practice and instruction. They should possess comprehensive knowledge of the theory, history, and technical elements of the contemporary photography/digital media curriculum and may integrate emerging production technologies into their work. Areas of specialization could include darkroom photography, the Adobe Creative Suite, and new technologies.

Teaching duties involve three courses: two foundational digital media courses and one introductory photography course. Candidates should submit evidence of teaching excellence, a track record of scholarship and professional growth, and a dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications and Experience

An MFA is mandatory by the time of hiring, and applicants should ideally possess one to two years of successful college-level teaching experience.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The portfolios should include 20 images of the candidate’s work and 10 images of student work (if applicable). In the PDF, please provide descriptions (title, medium, year, size) and any contextual notes that may assist in understanding your work.

Applicants progressing to the subsequent stage may be requested to submit graduate school transcripts.
