The Kona Community Policing Section of the Hawai‘i Police Department, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL), is organizing the inaugural Keiki Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning, January 18, 2025. The registration will commence at 7:00 a.m. at the gazebo of the West Hawai‘i Civic Center, located at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway. The Run/Walk is scheduled to occur from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. along the bike path adjacent to Ane Keohokalole Highway.

Participants can compete in three different age categories and events, including:

  • Ages 5-8: 200-yard sprint course (families are encouraged to accompany their child)
  • Ages 9-12: half-mile course
  • Ages 13-17: one-mile course

After the races, refreshments and snacks will be available, and every participant will receive a medal.

“We aim to promote health, teamwork, and community spirit, while enhancing positive interactions between police officers and members of our community,” stated Officer Wyattlane Nahale from the Kona Community Policing.

HI-PAL is an initiative of the Hawai‘i Police Department where police officers mentor youth through various activities. This constructive relationship fosters teamwork, citizenship, and accountability among young people.
