LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University softball squad has finalized a 47-game itinerary for 2025, as announced by head coach Caitlyn de la Haba on Wednesday.
Bellarmine is scheduled to play 22 matches at Knights Field, which includes two multi-team tournaments. The Knights’ itinerary also comprises 24 Atlantic Sun Conference contests, evenly divided between home and away three-game series. This year, Bellarmine is set to compete in the ASUN’s Northeast Division alongside Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, and North Alabama. Notably, this season marks the inaugural instance in which the ASUN conference will implement a division-based schedule.
“Our ASUN schedule is slightly altered this year due to our placement into divisions aimed at reducing travel expenses,” de la Haba remarked regarding the conference adjustment. “We’re genuinely enthusiastic about the schedule we received and aim to build upon our achievements from last year, striving for a chance at our first ASUN Tournament.”
In tandem with the competitive conference schedule, the Knights will engage in a challenging non-conference slate, showcasing some of the leading teams within the state.
“We’re not playing many midweek games this year, but we have some exciting matchups, including a trip to the University of Louisville and hosting the University of Kentucky at our field,” said de la Haba. “These games consistently attract large crowds, creating a fun atmosphere that the players eagerly anticipate, as we continue to develop and aim to present the finest product on the field.”
de la Haba’s team will commence their season on the road from February 7-9 at Charleston Southern’s Kickoff Tournament for the second consecutive year. In their opening tournament, the Knights will face Georgetown University and Charleston Southern twice each, along with a single matchup against Siena.
Following the season’s inaugural weekend, Bellarmine will make its way back home to engage in its first games at Knights Field, hosting a multi-team event from February 21-23. During this home weekend, Bellarmine will compete against both the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Northern Illinois University in doubleheader matches. After the event, the Knights will remain in town, taking a brief trip to the University of Louisville on February 26 for a game against the Cardinals.
Subsequently, BU will embark on another road journey for a tournament, returning to The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, FL for the second consecutive season, playing a five-game weekend against University at Albany, Binghamton University (twice), Bethune-Cookman, and Butler University from February 28 to March 2. The Knights will also make a stop in Cookeville, TN, for a game against Tennessee Tech on March 5.
“We are genuinely excited to head to some wonderful destinations in the south for preseason. Last year, we visited Charleston and Madeira Beach, and the team had a very positive experience both on and off the field,” de la Haba expressed about the team’s early excursions. “It’s fantastic when we can take them on trips where they can engage in enjoyable activities as a team off the field between games and spend quality time with their families in places they might not have otherwise visited.”
After their road trip, Bellarmine will return home for its longest home stretch of the season, consisting of 10 games. It will begin with their second and final home multi-team event from March 7-9, hosting Ball State University, Stonehill College, and Evansville University. The following weekend, the Knights will launch their ASUN schedule with a three-game home series against Austin Peay from March 14-16. BU will continue its extended home stretch on March 19, welcoming the University of Kentucky before concluding and resuming conference play on March 22-23 with a three-game series against Eastern Kentucky.
The Knights will then embark on their longest road adventure of the season, a seven-game stretch commencing on March 26 at Morehead State. Bellarmine will partake in back-to-back road ASUN series, initially heading to Nashville, TN from March 29-30 for three games against Lipscomb, before concluding the trip in Clarksville, TN with three games against Austin Peay from April 4-6.
On April 9, BU will return to Knights Field for a rematch with Tennessee Tech. Bellarmine will then host Central Arkansas for three additional ASUN games on April 12-13, followed by a concluding non-conference game against Northern Kentucky at home on April 16.
To wrap up the year, Bellarmine will alternate home and away ASUN series for the final three weeks of the season, starting with a visit to Florence, AL for three matches against North Alabama on April 18-19. The Knights will play their last three home games of the season on April 26-27 against Lipscomb. BU will draw their regular season to a close on May 2-3 in Richmond, KY competing in three games against Eastern Kentucky.
