Sony Unveils Its Groundbreaking Electric Car, Afeela 1: Featuring Cutting-Edge AI Technology and Beyond!

We are all familiar with Sony as a brand known for innovative gadgets like PlayStation, TVs, smartphones, cameras, and much more. Now, the Japanese technology titan in partnership with Honda has introduced its initial electric vehicle, the Afeela 1. The vehicle was showcased at CES 2025 and will be manufactured at the brand’s new facility in Ohio, United States, with initial sales aimed at California. The first deliveries to customers are anticipated by mid-2026.

Prospective customers can pre-order the Afeela 1 by placing a deposit of $200 (approximately Rs 17,000 at current conversion rates), which is fully refundable, via the official website. The Afeela 1 will be available in two models – the Origin variant starting at $89,900, and the premium Signature version at $102,900 (around Rs 77 lakh and Rs 88 lakh respectively at current rates). Both versions come with a complimentary three-year subscription providing access to select advanced features and capabilities.
Regarding the battery and electric motor, the Afeela 1 includes a 91kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with dual electric motors that generate a combined 482 bhp of power. It has an estimated range of 483 km on a single charge. The battery allows fast charging up to 150 kW. Both Honda and Sony have revealed that the EV is compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network for refueling.

The Afeela 1 appears to be constructed on the same platform as the Honda 0 Series electric vehicles. It has a length of 4915mm, a wheelbase of 3018mm, and a height of 1460mm. It also boasts a distinctive media bar that is embedded in the front of the hood, acting as an external information display. The vehicle includes an active rear spoiler and the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) comprises an impressive 40 sensors, including cameras, lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors strategically positioned around the electric vehicle. It is equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels and features an all-wheel drive system.

Inside, the EV offers a unique yoke-style steering wheel, a large panoramic display, and advanced noise cancellation technology. The infotainment system revolves around a customizable screen, controlled through the Afeela Ai voice command system. Users will have access to various applications, including Amazon, Audible, Spotify, TikTok, and Zoom.
SHM claims that the audio system is tailored to deliver enhanced sound quality for each seat, featuring sophisticated noise cancellation technologies. Moreover, around 70% of the interior surfaces comprise plant-based and recycled materials, with recycled elements utilized in the chassis and steel body.
