Areas of Texas are under a winter storm warning beginning Wednesday through Friday and the National Weather Service (NWS) is recommending that inhabitants think about “postponing all travel.”

The NWS stated in their announcement on Tuesday in part: “Consider bringing a winter
storm kit with you, which should include items like tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, a shovel, blankets, and spare clothing. Don’t forget water, a first aid kit, and any additional items that might assist you in the event you get stranded.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, mentioned on X, previously known as Twitter, on Tuesday: “Instructed @TDEM today to elevate the readiness level of the Texas State Operations Center ahead of winter weather this week. Texas will ensure that required resources are deployed swiftly. Texans are encouraged to stay weather-aware and routinely check road conditions.

NWS Meteorologist Juan Hernandez informed Newsweek via phone on Tuesday: “The primary concern will be the roadways. Significant snow accumulations are occurring rather quickly. It will also remain chilly.”

Hernandez noted that the area expecting the highest snow accumulations will be north of the Dallas/Fort Worth region.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas stated on X on Tuesday: “Freezing temperatures, snow, and ice predicted across #Texas could result in LOCAL power outages. What Is Expected Next

The warning concludes Friday afternoon, according to the NWS. Hernandez further mentioned to Newsweek that the area should anticipate temperatures in the mid-40s to low 50s as the weekend approaches.

“We do not foresee any significant weather over the weekend,” Hernandez added.
