The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme operates on a Windows 11 framework. This model is the premium option among the two Asus ROG Ally variants, featuring an AMD Zen 4 based Z1 Extreme processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It features a 7″ display with a clear 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

In contrast, its primary rival, the Steam Deck, operates on a Linux-based Steam OS, while the ROG Ally relies on the established Windows 11. The advantage here is that the ROG Ally is compatible with virtually any Windows game launcher, such as Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Games Pass, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and others. This obviously increases its appeal to gamers who prefer titles that are not available or are more challenging to install on the Steam Deck.

The Asus ROG Ally X was also launched in 2024, and it is an overall enhanced gaming handheld, albeit at an additional cost of $300.
