UNI swimming and diving (0-1) against Iowa State (2-2)

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Having been away from the competitive pool for over a month, the UNI

swimming and diving squad will once again take to the water this weekend as they head to Ames to compete against the Cyclones in dual competition.

The contest is scheduled to commence on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT at Beyer Hall in Ames, with live results available on Meet Mobile (for swimming) and Dive Meets (for diving).

This dual will mark only the Panthers’ second of the season, having faced Iowa in their season opener back in November at home. During their last appearance at the Hawkeye Invitational in late November, Northern Iowa’s team shattered three school records along with one Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) record.

Faith Larsen set a new personal best and school record in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 22.48 seconds, which was a reduction of 0.02 seconds from her previous best recorded in 2023. Meanwhile, Abby Lear, Larsen, Morgan Meyer, and Waren Graeve triumphed in the 200-yard freestyle relay, securing a new school and MVC record time of 1:30.71. Additionally, Meyer set a new record for Northern Iowa by placing seventh in the finals for the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.28. Notably, Olivia Chambers also established a new Para American record in the S13 category, finishing with a time of 4:57.04 at the Hawkeye Invitational.

In the diving aspect, Trista Thompson emerged as UNI’s leading finisher in the one-meter springboard prelims at the Hawkeye Invitational, securing 25th place (236.35), followed by Erica Peters in 30th (227.10) and Natalie Devoll in 36th (213.75). On the three-meter springboard, Erica Peters was the sole diver to qualify for the finals, finishing in 22nd place with a score of 248.70.

In their previous encounter, Iowa State triumphed over Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls last January during Senior Day, winning by a score of 162-138. This weekend, UNI seeks its inaugural triumph in a dual meet against the Cyclones.
