Gwendolyn Sachau, a senior hailing from Evans, Georgia, along with Katie Boster and Makayla Patton, is organizing “Explore Nursing,” another opportunity available during Weeks of Welcome. The trio is pursuing nursing degrees.

“I am particularly focused on this initiative as it will enable me to build connections across the school, assisting individuals in discovering the ideal match for their future professions and exploring the nursing field as a viable option,” Sachau stated. “This event holds great significance for me as I aim to become a nurse practitioner. This profession will include mentoring aspiring nurses and educating my patients and their families, and I wish to establish connections and motivate others to share my enthusiasm for aiding others in their growth and healing journeys.”

The Japan Club is presenting “Meet, Greet and Calligraphy,” where students enthusiastic about Japan and its culture will engage in Shōdo (Japanese calligraphy) and Sumi (ink art).

Inspired by former President Jimmy Carter’s initiatives in fostering diplomatic ties with Japan, Kenz Johnson-Tucker aspires to work for a Japanese corporation.

“As a result of these efforts, Georgia has emerged as a significant hub for cultivating these connections and sharing the rich cultural tapestry, art, history, language, and more. One day I hope to be employed by a Japanese company, and fortunately, Georgia is the perfect place for that,” the junior from Dunwoody, Georgia, remarked.

Johnson-Tucker is currently pursuing a degree in computer science with a minor in Japanese.

Claudia Marban, a junior from Gillsville, Georgia, is introducing United Nations Trivia to Weeks of Welcome.

I think it is essential to recognize the United Nations and its contributions in addressing and discussing critical global issues,” Marban expressed, adding “it should be both entertaining and educational to participate, with a chance to earn a prize.”

Marban, who is a First-Gen student, is studying political science.

“It’s truly remarkable to see students take the initiative to coordinate Winter Weeks of Welcome. They are not merely observers; they are actively influencing their own college journey. This proactive mindset showcases their dedication and commitment to nurturing a vibrant Nighthawk community,” Michener commented.

The Weeks of Welcome experience can be transformative, and Michener urges students to participate.

“By engaging in Winter Weeks of Welcome and involving yourself in student organizations, you’re not just going through the motions, but rather investing in your future. These experiences will kindle your intellectual curiosity, cultivate a profound sense of belonging, inspire your purpose, and enhance your overall well-being. Venture beyond your comfort zone and allow the enchantment of the Nighthawk community to reshape you,” he encouraged.
