Swimming Strikes Gold with Four Prestigious Big 12 Honors!

TEMPE – Following their inaugural week of competition in the new year, No. 3/14 Sun Devil Swim and Dive attained four Big 12 weekly swim and dive accolades announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Breaststroker Andy Dobrzanski achieved his first career weekly recognition after clinching victory in the breaststroke events against Grand Canyon, finishing the 100 breast in 52.92 and the 200 breast in 1:55.30. He swam a 43.97 100 freestyle second leg in the 400 free relay, and a 23.48 50 breast leg in the 200 medley relay that secured a second-place finish.

Olympian Tolu Young received his second weekly honor this year by triumphing in the 50 free, being the only swimmer to finish under 20 seconds with a time of 19.90. He also secured the 100 fly (47.62) against GCU. In the 200 medley relay, he swam a 19.45 50 fly leg, helping his relay team attain a second-place finish.

Graduate Caroline Bentz earned her sixth Big 12 weekly accolade after achieving victory in the 50 free (22.31) and the 200 back (1:53.23) against Rice last Friday. She followed up her performance with wins in the 100 free (48.73) and the 200 free (1:47.71). Furthermore, she participated in the 200 medley relay that shattered the school record by swimming a 21.47 50 free leg.

Against GCU, she was part of the victorious 200 medley relay swimming a 24.63 50 back lead leg, and contributed to the winning 400 free relay, finishing with a 49.13 relay.

Butterfly expert Julia Ullmann achieved her second Big 12 weekly accolade of the season after winning the 200 fly and being the sole swimmer to finish under two minutes, concluding in 1:59.82. She placed second in the 100 free (50.44) with Bentz winning the race. She clinched victory in the 100 fly (52.86) and placed as runner-up in the 50 free (22.87) against Rice.
