Thrilling Showdown: WBB Falls Short Against Creighton in Narrow 71-68 Road Defeat

OMAHA, Nebraska – The Marquette University women’s basketball squad fell in an away game against Creighton, 71-68, on Wednesday evening at D.J. Sokol Arena.

The Golden Eagles (10-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) were spearheaded by Lee Volker, who scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jaidynn Mason set a career-high at Marquette with 18 points, along with four rebounds and two steals.

In the final two minutes and 46 seconds of the second quarter, Creighton embarked on an 11-3 run, entering halftime with an 11-point advantage.

Marquette managed to reduce the lead to single digits five times throughout the third quarter and concluded the period trailing by eight. The Golden Eagles cut the gap to six at the 8:59 mark of the final quarter before the Bluejays went on a 10-2 run in the subsequent three minutes.

The Golden Eagles answered back with a 6-0 run, narrowing the score to three points with 1:15 remaining.

Creighton (13-3, 5-0 BIG EAST) were bolstered by Morgan Maly, who delivered 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Marquette achieved a season-best shooting percentage of 56 percent from the floor.
• It was the first instance this season where an opponent shot 45 percent or higher from the field.
• Wednesday marked the first and only regular season matchup between Marquette and Creighton. The BIG EAST conducts an 18-game conference schedule.
